Individual HANDLE Evaluations and Programs

Individual HANDLE Evaluations and Programs are offered for clients ages 1-adult (no age limit).

Early Childhood Program (3 month package):

Children age 1- 4.11 are seen in a play environment. During that time I observe the child in relation to how she interacts with herself, the practitioner, parents, and the toys. These nonjudgmental observations as well as an extensive intake questionnaire and interviews assist me to gather information about the efficiency of the child’s neurodevelopmental systems, create a program of HANDLE activities which I present to the family to do daily at home. There are 3 additional follow-up appointments to update the program to meet the child’s needs.

The 3 month program includes family support, collaboration with other providers and self-esteem enhancement. It is appropriate for children with mild to moderate issues including sensory integration dysfunction, learning and attention difficulties.

FULL Enhancement PROGRAM (7 Month Package):

This program allows for a thorough HANDLE assessment exploring a myriad of neurodevelopmental systems and the depth of their functioning. The assessment is observational, nonjudgmental, non-standardized, strength based and customized as needed to the capabilities of the client. Detailed interviews and questionnaire help me get a whole picture of a client’s neurodevelopmental patterns and interpret the ‘clues’ of their behavior/learning/social functioning.

A program of HANDLE activities is created - I have over 100 copyrighted activities to choose from. I demonstrate and individualize the activity program to the client who then does them daily at home. I provide an extensive explanation of my observations to both the client (at a developmentally appropriate level) and family. There are 7 additional follow-up appointments over 6 months after the assessment to update the program to meet the client’s needs. This program also incorporates collaboration with the client’s community of providers/teachers, family support and self-esteem enhancement. Comprehensively, it provides the greatest opportunity to monitor growth and development and customize supports.

Screenings:

Provides a broad stroke nonjudgmental observational evaluation and one follow up, often by phone. The Screening gives an introduction to working with me and the HANDLE approach including a few HANDLE activities.  It allows you to see the kinds of information I gather and the type of interpretations I make, as well as how I will address the irregularities in neurodevelopmental systems I find. It is less comprehensive, shorter and with minimal follow up. It is meant to “screen” for systemic inefficiencies and provide recommendations for next steps.

Screenings are appropriate for children with mild to moderate issues including sensory integration dysfunction, learning and attentional difficulties (not for clients with diagnosis of Autism unless mild, nonverbal, or those with high medical needs), and for families that are unsure about HANDLE.
